Bay Area Air Quality Management District Weighs in on Johnson Drive

In a letter to the City of Pleasanton, The Bay Area Air Quality Management District makes recommendations for requirements to help reduce pollution and points out errors in the methodology used to assess pollution impact in the Johnson Drive Economic Development Zone EIR.

Among the recommendations:

  • Require electrical hookups for diesel trucks at loading docks;
  • Prohibit all vehicles including commercial motor vehicles with a gross vehicular weight ratings of less than 10,000 pounds from idling for more than 2 minutes;
  • Require truck fleets based in the plan area to meet CARB’s highest engine tier available at the time building permits are issued.

The letter also points out that the gas emission calculations used for the EIR are based on outdated industry calculators, and should be redone.
