Dear Johnson Drive EDZ Interested Parties,
You are invited to a Joint Meeting of the City Council and Planning Commission to discuss the potential Johnson Drive Economic Development Zone (Johnson Drive EDZ). The meeting will take place on April 12, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. at the Pleasanton Senior Center.
The Johnson Drive EDZ is a pilot Economic Development Zone within a 40-acre area along Johnson Drive (between Stoneridge Drive and I-580), which is currently developed with aging office, commercial, institutional, and industrial uses. The creation of a Johnson Drive EDZ would allow the City to use zoning and land use designations, completed environmental review documentation, and standards and guidelines to streamline the development process and encourage investment, thereby diversifying the City’s economic base.
In 2014, the City Council endorsed the idea of exploring a Johnson Drive EDZ in recognition of the fact that rezoning the property for commercial purposes would allow for a wider, more modern range of uses. More recently, the City held two community meetings and a Planning Commission workshop to raise awareness about economic development along Johnson Drive, answer questions, and seek public input on the Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Report (DSEIR).
The City is in the process of completing its Response to Comments on the DSEIR, as well as a comprehensive Economic Study. Both will be available on or before March 21, 2016 and will be discussed at the April 12 workshop. These documents, along with the DSEIR, staff reports, a Frequently Asked Questions fact sheet and other information about the Johnson Drive EDZ can be found on the City’s homepage under “Hot Topics” or at www.cityofpleasantonca.gov/JDEDZ
This joint meeting is intended to maximize public involvement in the Johnson Drive EDZ planning process. No formal actions will be taken at this meeting. We encourage everyone to come and get more information, ask questions and share comments.
